How It Works
At Common Ground Creative, we understand recovery as a personal and non-linear journey. Recovery does not mean "fixing" or "curing," but rather supporting people to build a meaningful life, strengthen their wellbeing, and move toward goals that matter to them.
Our supports are designed to work alongside each participant's NDIS plan, helping translate goals into practical, achievable steps in everyday life.
Supporting Psychosocial Recovery
Our non-clinical, psychosocial supports focus on:
- Building emotional wellbeing and resilience
- Reducing isolation and increasing social connection
- Supporting confidence, routine, and daily functioning
- Encouraging self-direction, choice, and autonomy
Through peer-based and strengths-focused support, participants are supported to reconnect with their interests, community, and sense of purpose at their own pace.
Translating Goals Into Everyday Action
We work collaboratively with participants to break NDIS goals into meaningful, real-world activities. Supports may assist with goals such as:
- Increasing social and community participation
- Building independence and life skills
- Developing coping strategies and routines
- Exploring creative expression and personal interests
- Strengthening communication and relationships
By focusing on practical steps, participants are supported to make progress in ways that feel achievable and relevant to their daily lives.
Building Confidence Through Community & Creativity
Community-based and creative supports play a key role in recovery by:
- Providing safe opportunities to try new activities
- Supporting participants to engage with others in low-pressure environments
- Encouraging self-expression, reflection, and emotional processing
- Helping participants identify strengths and build self-belief
These experiences can support improved confidence, motivation, and a sense of belonging.
Strengths-Based & Person-Centred Practice
All supports are tailored to the individual and delivered with respect for each participant's lived experience. We focus on:
- What participants can do and want to achieve
- Choice, control, and pacing
- Trauma-informed, compassionate engagement
- Collaboration with Support Coordinators and informal supports
This approach supports sustainable progress while respecting individual boundaries and needs.
Working Alongside Other Supports
Our services are non-clinical and are intended to complement, not replace, clinical or therapeutic supports. We work alongside:
- Support Coordinators and Recovery Coaches
- Allied health and clinical services (where involved)
- Family and informal supports
This collaborative approach helps ensure participants receive holistic, coordinated support aligned with their overall recovery goals.
In Summary
Our supports assist with recovery by:
- Encouraging connection, creativity, and participation
- Building skills, confidence, and independence
- Supporting participants to work toward meaningful goals
- Providing safe, respectful, and empowering support
Recovery looks different for everyone, and we honour each person's journey with care, flexibility, and respect.
